bibliophilia 12 Feb to 27 Feb 2010

Bibliophilia is a term that refers to a great love of books and it is books that are at the centre of this exhibition. The books that a person owns and reads entice a fascination about subjects known and unfamiliar. For me, the spines of books conjure up associations about knowledge and identity. This exhibition aims to visualise these associations. The book spines depicted in this exhibition are all drawn from book collections about art and art history. The books spines are rendered in a cool and conceptual manner and arranged in groups with a variety of different paintings and prints created from the titles. This allows the viewer to contemplate the titles of the books and their associations.

Charlene is a British-born artist who moved to Melbourne in 2008. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from RMIT and a Bachelors in History of Art. She has been offered places at the Courtauld Institute and Goldsmiths College and has work in private collections in the UK, Canada and Australia.
